Go buy something from Chevron/Unocal

Bid of CNOOC (Chineese National Oil Company) to buy Unocal is dead

Ok, so they thought about it pretty hard is CNOOC would have substantially raised their bid of $67/share; probably would have taken almost $75/share to make the deal possible; but the board showed some backbone...

By the time those statements were made, Unocal’s board had already concluded that it would have to withdraw its recommendation of the lower Chevron bid if neither company raised its offer. The filing doesn’t say how much Unocal hoped CNOOC would bid.

CNOOC refused to budge, unless Unocal paid the costs of terminating the Chevron deal and lobbied for the deal in Congress — steps Unocal said it couldn’t take.

That's pretty straight up of the board to indicate it wasn't going to lobby for the deal. The board, the companies, and the shareholders left a lot of value on the table to be good Americans. Go buy something from them; it took a lot of balls.

External WiFi Antennas...Illegal

http://www.insidebayarea.com/businessnews/ci_2886879

Known as "cantennas," they consist of a Pringles can and some hardware worth $5 to $10 but can be used to amplify a wireless signal several miles away.

"They're unsophisticated but reliable, and it's illegal to possess them," said Lozito of the Hi-Tech Crimes Task Force.

Illegal? Really. Under who's orders I'd like to know. The best they could probably do is cause a stink with Part 15 FCC regulations concerning unlicensed RF devices, but that's a stretch. It really deals with keeping equipment from one neighbor radiating enough signal to interfere with the next neighbor's equipment. The key component here is device verification....which is on an honor system. If a manufactuer thinks they're in compliance with the rule, then they're ok...they don't even need to submit anything to the FCC regarding it. The second most important thing, is that this device does not increase the power radiated from the WiFi card, it only makes the antenna more sensitive. Then, even if they still want to apply 15, then the you actually have to have someone complain about the interference and then it's on the user of the device to correct the operation to mitigate interence.

Illegal...as if. Cops being experts at things other than eating donuts...never.

Taj Mahal under new management

Muslim charity claims Taj Mahal

It says since the Taj Mahal houses several Muslim graves it falls under its jurisdiction.

Fair enough. The US, therefore, owns pretty much all of the planet as our soldiers have died on almost every square foot defending against totalatarian regimes. This pretty much requires that we put another star on our flag just for France alone.

The "religion of peace" is really starting to annoy me and should you too.

Aside from that, this is really going to piss off the Hindus. Right now, in India, churches and mosques do not pay any taxes; however, Hindu shrines are considered state property and DO pay taxes and that tax money gets turned around and funneled back to the mosques. Talk about biting the hand that feeds you.

The last time the Hindus got their dander up...this happened.
Babri Mosque

RIGHT NOW, the Hindus are trying to errect a temorary temple on that ground, and look below for what just happened.
Violent Protests across India after attack on holy site

Really Muslims, this isn't a good fight to pick for you. Remember, India has "the bomb" too.
