A manager at a Detroit meatpacking plant said Monday that 15 immigrant women were fired last month after attending a protest for immigrant rights. He said they had been told that they would be terminated if they missed work on the day of the protest.
15 workers all bolting on the same day; can't see why that happened... (insert dripping sarcasm here)
...
They were fired "for standing up for their rights," Herrada said.
Sounds like they were fired for not showing up to work; you know, the thing they get paid to do.
The fired workers were natives of Mexico and many had worked at the plant for several years. Most have children and are worried about supporting their families, Herrada said.
If they were so worried about supporting their families, maybe they should have showed up for their job.
...
"It was not fair,'" said Mercedes, a 31-year-old Detroit woman who attended the rally and was fired. "We went to fight for our rights." Mercedes is undocumented and asked that her last name not be used.
Oh, so she knows it's wrong to be in the country illegally so much so that she won't give her last name; but she wants "fair"?

I think reporters have forgotten what investigative reporting is. Lets say they do end up filming some discrimination or bigotry toward "muslims" at a NASCAR event, what does that prove? I think they're expecting the effect of a white sheet and hood at a southern baptist church.
I wonder how many times they'll have to film such an event before they get the outcome they're looking for? If they never do achive the holy grail of catching discrimination on camera, will we hear that their "test" found no discrimination?
Inquiring minds want to know...
Even then, where on earth did anyone say the United States was free from racists and bigots? I fail to see how this muslim "minority" is getting any more or less bigotry than any other "minority" group has ever encountered. You'd think they'd do this from the mexican perspective being that it's currently more topical.
I wonder if he got a severance package? Considering most of the severing is done with a sword; I hope so.
Zarqawi Fired
Ammam - Iraq's resistance has replaced Jordanian-born Abu Musab al-Zarqawi as political head of the rebels, confining him to a military role, the son of Osama bin Laden's mentor told AFP Sunday in Jordan.
"The Iraqi resistance's high command asked Zarqawi to give up his political role and replaced him with an Iraqi, because of several mistakes he made," said Hudayf Azzam, who claims close contacts with the rebels.
"Zarqawi's role has been limited to military action," said Azzam, whose late father Abdallah Azzam was the mentor of bin Laden, the Al-Qaeda boss.
"Zarqawi bowed to the orders two weeks ago and was replaced by Iraqi national Abdullah bin Rashed al-Baghdadi," Azzam said.
Azzam, 35, whose father was known as the "prince of mujahedeens", said he regularly receives "credible information on the resistance in Iraq".
He said Zarqawi "made many political mistakes", including "the creation of an independent organisation, Al-Qaeda in Iraq".
"Zarqawi also took the liberty of speaking in the name of the Iraqi people and resistance, a role which belongs only to the Iraqis," Azzam said.
As a result "the resistance command inside and outside Iraq, including imams, criticised him and after long discussions demanded that he be confined to military action", Azzam said.
"Zarqawi pledged not to carry out any more attacks against Iraq's neighbours after having been criticised for these operations which are considered a violation of sharia (Islamic law)," Azzam said.
I guess the civil war thing isn't progressing as they expected. Guess that whole biting the hand that feeds you isn't a good plan either.
Zarqawi losing his job is just more evidence that Iraq isn't the quagmire, for us at least, that some would like it to be. More reading at: Strategy Page

A federal jury decided on Monday, April 3, that Zacarias Moussaoui is eleigible for the death penalty. His response to the reading of the verdict?
"You'll never get my blood, God curse you all."
Wanna take bets on that?
It may be 20 years from now before the mandated appeals run out and they finally decide to put 2,000 volts through this guy, but that's not so far off that we can't being planning the party?
I thinking..
Bacon sandwiches, bacon wrapped steaks, pork chops, pork rinds, hell, we may invite Kevin Bacon, bacon bits on the salad, bacon jerky, and if somehow I can find a way, bacon beer.
...as he thinks he is.

Howard Stern Lashes Out at Some Fans
"It's insulting to me that everyone hasn't come with me. I take it personally," he says.
"I want to say to my audience ... `You haven't come with me yet? How dare you? We're up to wild, crazy stuff, the show has never sounded better. You cheap bastard!'"
Maybe...just maybe, Howard, you're not worth paying for? Opie and Anthony learned the same thing at XM. They were a pay channel, only an extra $2/mo, but after a few months, well, XM decided to throw the channel in with the regular lineup since few people paid.
190 miles on a Sunday morning; back by 1pm. Don, George, Mark and I decied to just tool around southeast of Indy. Don took his new BMW 1200RS. The pipe on this sounds great; quiet normally until he wacks the throttle and then has a nice sportbike sound. Mark's Elefant and George's Super Sport make that typical Ducati sound and my poor FJR can't even be heard at full song. Oh well, I've had enough of loud pipes with my FJ1200 the the open header CB-1.
Roads were in good shape; not too much crap on them this week. Tried out my new XM mounted radio too. That worked well; but the power plug didn't like the vibration for some reasoon and kept cutting out. I rubber banded the plug across the radio and it worked fine after that. I've got a few spare Roady radios I might try out, might be the socket.
I don't know what it is, but Don and I always turn into hooligans around each other. I'd hear him slide up next to me on the highway in a lower than normal gear and something in my brain automatically tells me I need to be down a few gears because I know what's going to happen. I used to just leave it in 5th when he rode is BMW LT, but his RS is fast and now I have to drop a couple gears to keep him from passing. After he puts a new chip in it this summer, I think I'll have to relinquish the highest horsepower crown.
During the twisties, I thought I had pulled away form George, which doesn't make any sense as he's done quite a bit of road racing and he's on his little Super Sport. At the next tight turn, I finally catch a glimpse of him in my mirror...tucked in close. He said my bike puts off as much draft as a semi with a lot less buffetting, so much so that he can relax the throttle and let me pull him along. Insane. I'll take my trunk off next time.
Rained the last couple miles before Indy on the way back; stopped and put on my raingear...a few min later, the rain stopped. Typical.
On the way through town, I went by the old 16th street speedway and there was an SCCA autocross course setup in the parking lot; stopped and watched that for a few min.
