Wang & Bush

Bush apologizes to Hu for protester

wenyi.jpgThe arrest and likely prosecution of Wenyi Wang for "disorderly conduct", as well as a small host of federal crimes, for her shouts at Bush and "President" Hu of China is especially sad given the statements Bush had just concluded regarding freedom for the Chinese people. He said to Wu, “China can grow even more successful by allowing the Chinese people the freedom to assemble, to speak freely and to worship.” Then, on the heels of that statement, Wenyi Wang is arrested for fighting for those freedoms... by exercising one of them. To me, this sends the wrong message to Hu, China and the World. It says we don't believe in Freedom. It gave Hu a taste of what China needs, but then illustrated that it's okay to suppress and punish such political speech. Indeed, it momentarily and prominently made us look just like them. The picture above, right says it all, as a Secret Service agent holds her hand over the mouth of Wang as she shouts for Freedom.

President Bush: Free Wenyi Wang!!!
